As part of a new series, we'll introduce some unique talents and stories behind Zooma's team. In this edition, following an insightful interview, we dive into the journey of Yeu‑Kang Hua, a multifaceted software developer who solves complex problems in tech and also pursues his passion for music.
Music has been central to Yeu-Kang's life since childhood. He sang before he could talk and learned violin, guitar and piano. His latest release, Bästa vänner – a jazzy and playful song about friendship from a child's perspective – was inspired by his daughter's innocence and captures childhood friendships' pure, sometimes fragile nature. After a six-year hiatus from music to focus on fatherhood, his daughter's curiosity reignited his passion upon seeing his YouTube clips, leading to the creation of two new songs: Lilla tjejen and Bästa vänner—meaning 'Little girl' and 'Best friends' in Swedish.
I want listeners to reminisce about the simplicity of childhood and embrace that raw, unfiltered perspective.
For Bästa vänner, the first sentence inspired the melody. Once that came, I couldn't stop thinking about it—it's like a giant puzzle that your mind just wants to solve.
The song started with a single sentence, and Yeu-Kang's mind couldn't rest until the melody and lyrics fell into place. Initially meant to be playful, the track evolved into a jazz-influenced piece, showcasing Yeu‑Kang's love for experimenting with different genres. Though production is challenging, he embraces the learning process, relying on software and AI for assistance, including the saxophone arrangement that became a signature part of the song.
I'm not great with instruments, but thanks to software, I can produce arrangements like the saxophone in Bästa vänner. It's like having people help you play, but without actual people.
With five songs already released, Yeu-Kang is excited to share more, including a Swedish rap song and a Chinese version of a Swedish ballad.
I try to be real in my music, which is why I often use my native languages. Writing in Swedish and Chinese allows me to express emotions that feel authentic and personal.
His goal? To avoid being limited to one particular style, continue to explore new sounds. As a new father and a passionate developer, he carefully balances both worlds, sometimes finding inspiration during late-night coding or while caring for his children. Yeu-Kang's journey is a testament to balancing a demanding career with artistic passions. His advice to others? Don't be afraid to embrace multiple interests and keep exploring.
If you're ready to experience Yeu-Kang's unique blend of heartfelt storytelling and melodic creativity, don't miss his latest release, Bästa vänner. It's a nostalgic dive into childhood innocence, brought to life through smooth jazz tones and personal reflections. Be sure to check out Lilla tjejen as well, another moving track that continues his journey as a musician.
