Kudos to Metenova for updating their website for increased accessibility. This is an important step in enhancing the user experience while preparing for the upcoming WCAG 2.1 Level AA requirements that will come into effect in June 2025.
From June 2025, all websites and digital services must meet the WCAG 2.1 Level AA accessibility standard. To extend the usability for all visitors and stay ahead of the upcoming legal requirements, Metenova partnered with Zooma to review and update its website's accessibility.
While Metenova already had a modern and recently updated website, they wanted to ensure it met accessibility best practices. With new legal requirements approaching, it became even more essential to take the next step and get a clear assessment of its digital status and concrete guidance on what to improve and how.
Together with Zooma, Metenova initiated an accessibility audit. The analysis covered:
Manual testing using screen readers and voice-over tools.
Automated scans to flag common accessibility issues.
CMS, design, and content structure analysis.
Precise effort estimates for required improvements categorise expertise areas like design, content, and development.
Zooma then supported the implementation of key development adaptations and a selection of design enhancements, such as introducing focus states, ARIA labels, keyboard navigation, and video transcript functionality.
“Most updates take effect immediately, while others introduce tools that empower content creators to structure content in line with WCAG easily.”
— Yeu-Kang Hua, Zooma
Metenova's site is now equipped to become WCAG 2.1 Level AA compliant and better prepared for the 2025 legislation. More importantly, the improvements contribute to a more inclusive user experience for all visitors.
Collaborating with Zooma on our WCAG implementation was a smooth journey, with regular updates and delivery according to plan.
— Caroline Lanetoft, Metenova
WCAG compliance isn't just about following rules—it's about ensuring digital content, information, and experiences are suitable for everyone. Metenova's proactive approach reflects a broader commitment to digital inclusivity, quality, and accessibility.
